Handling data: probability and mode (five days).

The language of probability is introduced and children are asked to order future events in order of likelihood. Dice, ‘Unfair’ and ‘fair’ spinners are used as contexts to discuss likelihood of different outcomes. Children make predictions and then carry out experiments to test them, recording results in frequency tables. They find the mode and range of a set of data. Questions are asked about the numbers of letters in children’s names and the times each letter of the alphabet occurs: children make predictions and then collect data recording this in frequency tables and presenting it in bar line charts. They compare the results with their predictions.
